The UPSC CSE consists of 3 phases plus they are Preliminary Exam, Mains Examination, and Personality Test/Interview. The UPSC calendar that consists of the examination dates is declared by the commission through UPSC tellings. Below given is the provisional calendar by timeline for the candidates reference.
The IAS Preliminary exam (objective / multiple choice questions kind) has two papers:
i. Paper - I (General Studies: duration - 2 hours; Marks - 200)
ii. Paper - II (Civil Services Aptitude Test duration - 2 hours; Marks - 200)
Note:
i. The minimum qualifying marks for Paper II is 33 percent.
ii. In both Paper I and Paper II for each incorrect response there's a negative mark of 1/3rd of the allotted marks of that query.
2. The second phase of the civil services is IAS Mains Test (subjective or illustrative kind) and it consists a total of 9 papers that will be broken up as given below:

Those, who clear UPSC Mains examination with the appointed cut offs will be called for personality test/interview round (the third and final round) by the commission which is held just in the UPSC Bhawan in New Delhi.

- The nominee must hold a degree of any University that's recognized by the state or central government.
- A degree received through Correspondence Instruction or Distance Education.
- A degree from an Open University.
- A qualification recognized by the Government of India as being equal to either of the preceding.
- Nominees who've given their final year graduation test/ waiting for the results may also apply with this examination (but they are going to be needed to produce evidence of passing the graduation test) before the final selection procedure.
